Hydrogen embrittlement is know to affect steels in most sour gas environments. The purpose of the paper is to present the effects of cleanliness of the metal on its resistance to hydrogen embrittlement. The paper outline the effects of sulfur, phosphorus, oxygen and carbon equivalent contents on the H2 embrittlement resistance of hot rolled plates. The need of calcium treatment is particullarly investigated. Tests results concerning the H2 resistance properties of segregated areas are presented. Finally process and steels specifications are discussed.
