Abstract
Results of tests with three non-chromate cooling water treatment programs in a model, open recirculating cooling water system1 are reported. The paper deals with the rate of inhibitor film formation under normal operating conditions and the rate of film breakdown under stressed conditions corresponding to loss of inhibitor and dispersant feed. The test rig utilized instantaneous corrosion rate monitoring with timed-rate data logging as well as conventional corrosion coupons, a test heat exchanger, and electrically heated tubular specimens. The programs tested are identified as (A) : phosphonate-zinc (PZ); (B) : stabilized phosphate/polymer (SPP) , and (C): "all-organic" based on hydroxy-phosphonic acid (AO).
