When severe interior corrosion in the water pipes of buildings cannot be explained by corrosivity or high velocity of water, an investigation into possible galvanic and stray current effects is often required. Similar investigation is often requested when severe corrosion on buried service pipes for the buildings cannot be explained by the soil corrosivity. The objective of this paper is to describe testing and evaluation of possible galvanic and stray current corrosion attacks of the piping systems in and around the buildings.
