Abstract
Different approaches of developing small scale expert systems to solve corrosion related problems are described: prediction of corrosion risk of stainless steels in aqueous solutions, analysis of corrosion failures of stainless steels, prediction of probability and severity of bimetallic corrosion, and selection of protective coatings to steel surfaces. In the fist three modules the concept "expert" is emphasized, no references to literature sources are given. The module dealing with the selection of coatings refers explicitly to existing standards, where applicable. All expert system modules were developed using a commercially available shell.
