The CORUND expert system package was developed as a guide to diagnosing corrosion of buried and below-grade metal equipment belonging to electric power distribution utilities. It is intended to assist utility personnel during equipment inspection and/or failure investigation to recognize, identify and assess corrosion damage. The program guides the user through the equipment investigation process by asking simple questions, answers to which can be obtained by determining the equipment type, location, current service status, material of construction, and various parameters which can be measured to detect corrosion and establish its extent.

The expert system is designed for ease of use, and no previous computer experience or computer programming knowledge is required.
