Penghu Cross Sea Bridge, The most important highway bridge in Pescadores, which connect the island of shiyeu and paisha since 1971, is located at 23°40' N, 119° 32' E, and the total length of the bridge is about 2.5Km. It is found that' the bridge was under severe corrosion after 5 years sevice, and the bridge was reconstructed since 1984. The objective of this study is to find the main reason that caused corrosion. Field survey and lab tests of cored specimens of PC and RC beams were conducted in this study, and also the previous record of regular check was examined. NDT such as test hammer, ultrasonic pulse velocity meter, pathfinder, as well as destructive test methods were employed in the study. After compressive test, the fractured core specimen were collected and prepared for chemical analyses, microstructure analysis (SEM, EDX & XRD), minerlogical analysis, and the study of chloride diffusion. A tentative conclusion that the corrosion style of the bridge is mainly due to the series stress corrosion occurred in tendons and rebars after the severe concrete cracking and chloride penetration were made from this study.
