Abstract
Taking into consideration the properties required of a high-quality coating comparative testing has shown that multilayer PE coatings represent an optimum solution to the related problems. Mechanical impact resistance is the most important service property of a coating. From this point of view, PE thick-layer coatings afford a wide safety margin and can stand up to even unforeseeable mechanical loads.
Decades of constant, extremely low protective current requirements for correctly laid large-diameter pipelines give proof of the excellent service properties of PE thick-layer coating.
