Abstract
The U.S. Navy’s Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity Corrosion-Control Shops delivery metallized aluminum, organic powder and paint coating services to ships to reduce ship’s force manhours expended on preservation. In addition to the coating services offered, the corrosion-control shops provide installation materials to ship’s personnel to properly reassemble the component and reinstall aboard the ship. Planning and scheduling of ship’s work into a corrosion control shop has been accomplished through the development ship specific work packages, corrosion control shop specific industrial processes, development of standard production times and training of shop personnel. Lessons learned from 3 years of operation are presented.
