Military weapon systems face tradeoffs of performance, cost of production and maintenance versus long term durability and reduced reliability resulting from corrosion, ‘here is a broad set of requirements presented to contractors which represent the collective wisdom of what is needed for durability. These requirements are judged to be cost effective and near optimum in this tradeoff of performance/cost with corrosion resistance.
