Abstract
Material problems associated with the copper production industry are varied in nature and deal with corrosion and wear of concrete, ceramics, polymers and metals. Environments range from nontreated water to concentrated acid and from molten metal to hot SO2 gas. Each production operation, mining, mineral processing, smelting and refining, has unique material problems which are reviewed in detail. Laboratory and field observations collected over the past two years are presented and discussed.
