Abstract
12%Cr centrifugally cast pipe was installed in sour gas gathering service with exposure to CO2, H2O and a small amount of H2S at the maximum temperature of 350 deg. F. Pipe shipped is 8 in. outside diameter, sch 120 (0.719 in.) wall and 40 ft. long. Two 20 ft. long pipe sections were welded together in the shop to 40 ft. length for field fabrication.
Material chemical balance and heat treatment conditions were studied to produce high yield strength (60,000 psi) 12%Cr centrifugal castings with low hardness level of Rc20. Welding tests were performed to assure the weld joint had the same strength levels.
Also discussed are several new applications of centrifugal casting process.
