A logical beginning to a discussion of the process should be mention of the foremost problem that faces a client when deciding whether or not to go the route of internal chemical cleaning and placing a corrosion protective lining in his pipeline. (Fig. No. 1) Many industry people have monitored development of the internal (in-situ) pipeline chemical cleaning and protective lining process since its' practical beginning in the middle 1940's. Process results have been variable over the years, yet the general trend has been toward significant improvement gained through operating experience, a better understanding of the dynamics of fluid flow, of cleaning and coating train performance, of the characteristics of coating extrusion, and attainment of specified dry film thickness of coating with a multi-coat process.
