A case history with a specific inorganic corrosion-resistant lining is reported. During two years service, lining samples were taken at three intervals and evaluated for any changes in critical properties. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was utilized to follow structural changes within a specific lining material. Electron-excited, energy dispersive x-ray analyses (EDAX) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) studies were performed. SEM, EDAX and XRD results are correlated to chemical changes within the lining material, and too, changes in physical and chemical properties. Other inorganic, non-metallic corrosion-resistant systems are also discussed. Guidelines for selection are presented.
