Abstract
Experience with stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in large steam turbines is reviewed and changes made to increase the SCC resistance of steam turbine components are discussed. The steam contaminants responsible for turbine SCC damage and the sources of these contaminants are identified. Steam contaminant concentrating mechanisms operative in steam turbines are described as well as the rationale for recommended limits on steam impurities.
