Abstract
Chloride stress corrosion cracking of austenitic stainless steel has occurred in pipe nipples or safety valves at the Fort Lewis Solvent Refined Coal (SRC) Pilot Plant. These dead-legs act as traps where salts can build up and provide an environment for the cracking.
