The Office of Saline Water* (OSW), a branch of the U. S. Department of the Interior, for the last seven years has sponsored a program to provide broad guidelines on the corrosion and chemical resistance behavior of constructional materials in desalination environments. Long range goals of this effort were to relate desalination water chemistry to materials, thus enabling them to last for the design life of the plant at the same time helping to reduce the cost to produce fresh water.
