During the course of this program, several copper-base alloys have been extensively evaluated in a specially designed test facility(1) simulating conditions encountered in desalination (distillation) plants at The International Nickel Company's Francis L. LaQue Corrosion Laboratory. The materials tested were 90/10 and 70/30 Cu-Ni alloys, aluminum brass, and admiralty brass. In this review, the effects of temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, velocity, metal ion additions, and aggressive sea water chemistry on corrosion of these copper-base alloys in hot sea water are presented.
