Stray current interference may cause pipeline corrosion resulting in environmental pollution, unsafe operations, and a reduction of pipeline service life. This paper describes the results of a systematic field investigation of the stray current interference from a DC Light railway. To mitigate the stray current interference, drainage by a grounding technique and additional cathodic protection has been adopted. These mitigation efforts greatly reduced the detrimental stray current effects.
