An erosion-corrosion study has been performed for Corrosion Resistant Alloys (CRA) in liquid-gas multiphase flow conditions with CO2 saturated brine and sand particles. Pure erosion and erosion-corrosion tests were conducted in a multiphase flow loop at two different temperatures of 76°F (24.4°C) and 150°F (65.6°C). Also an electrochemical technique was used to study the effect of pH and temperature on the repassivation behavior of Super 13Cr-95 (S13Cr) and Stainless Steel Duplex (22Cr) exposed to CO2 saturated brine. A scratch made on a well-defined area of the working electrode (CRA) may be interpreted as similar to the removal of the passive layer due to sand particle impingement. This approach can be used to characterize the effect of sand particle erosion on the corrosion response of a CRA. With this technique, the mechanical process making the scratch and the repassivation process of the CRA can be viewed as nearly separate events. Results are compared to previous data gathered for conventional 13Cr-L80 (13Cr) at similar conditions.
