Abstract
Recent technological advances now provide a quantum-jump increase in the ability to find and monitor corrosion. It may now be possible to virtually eliminate failures for several important corrosion mechanisms found in refining. A systematic approach to match combinations of NDE and continuous monitoring technologies for specific corrosion mechanisms are described. Some important remaining technical and logistical hurdles are identified. Brief comments regarding potential “next generation” monitoring technologies are given.
