Abstract
This article focuses on investigating the performance of FBE internal coating in gas services under NaCl brine and monoethylene glycol (MEG), exposed to different gases (N2, CO2, H2S). In addition, several pipelines injected with MEG up to 80 to 90 wt.% to inhibit hydrate formation to avoid plugging of the pipeline. For this reason, it was important to understand the effect of different severities of the conditions the coating is exposed to in NaCl and MEG media under CO2 and H2S conditions. Various techniques were utilized in this study such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), dry film thickness (DFT), hardness, and high pressure and temperature autoclave testing. The comparative study revealed that the presence of CO2 and H2S in MEG solution lead to highly acidic and corrosive solution that will adversely impact the coating performance due to softening/plasticization effect of MEG organic acidic solution on the polymer matrix leading to higher electrolyte uptake and corrosion taken place underneath FBE coating system.
