When engineers specify coatings materials for any industrial application the process often involves the comparison of various solutions through the lens of physical and chemical properties of the cured coating. Standards organizations such as ASTM International (formerly the American Society for Testing and Materials, now having adopted the international moniker), and AMPP (Association for Materials Protection & Performance) produce standards documents which are widely disseminated and used very effectively by the entire industry.
