This study investigated the influence of polymer degradation resulting from prolonged exposure to fluids at high temperatures and CO2 pressures on polymeric materials. The Laboratory of Non-Destructive Testing, Corrosion and Welding (LNDC) has developed a system capable of applying significantly higher decompression rates than those traditionally recommended by the ISO 22936-2 standard. Hence, the resistance to blistering could be evaluated under two different conditions of Rapid Gas Decompression (RGD) testing: the traditional method at a rate of 20 bar/min and the rate provided by the LNDC RGD system, 100 bar/min. The results revealed that the use of higher decompression rates contribute to the development of high-performance materials aimed at enhancing safety, efficiency, and sustainability in various industrial sectors, including the demands of the Brazilian pre-salt region.
