Ao longo do tempo, biocidas são aplicados nos diversos sistemas industriais, no entanto, os microrganismos desenvolveram mecanismos de resistência, reduzindo sua eficiência, além de agregarem custo significativo à aplicação e carrear riscos de contaminação ambiental. Dessa forma, é importante buscar novas tecnologias como a radiação ultravioleta, para minimizar os efeitos causados pela influência de microrganismos, alternativamente aos agentes químicos tradicionais [1].
