Extended abstract
In this research low-Cr steels with 4 and 6 wt.% were used as concrete reinforcement with cement cured by carbonation. The steels were processed to ensure the Cr in solid solution and to guarantee refined microstructure by thermomechanical processing. The microstructure of these steels was characterized, and their composition verified. Furthermore, the corrosion resistance of these low-Cr steels was analyzed in simulated carbonated concrete pore solutions. Electrochemical cell methods were used to evaluate the corrosion resistance of steels and accelerated carbonation test in carbonated cementitious composite. So after all, the 4% and 6% Cr steel was proved to guarantee the durability of carbonated cement concretes regarding to reinforcement corrosion.
