Joint Laboratory for Corrosion of Nuclear Power Materials, Shanghai Jiao Tong University & Shanghai Nuclear Engineering and Design Institute

Joint Laboratory for Corrosion of Nuclear Power Materials Team

The Joint Laboratory for Corrosion of Nuclear Power Materials between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai Nuclear Engineering and Design Institute is located in Shanghai, China. With over 60 controlled water chemistry testing loops constructed to date, and more than 40 systems with active loading and direct current potential drop (DCPD) for stress corrosion cracking (SCC) tests under high-temperature water environment, the laboratory is becoming the largest in the field of corrosion testing for the nuclear power industry in China. They are building more testing systems for SCC tests under high-temperature water environment, and another 25 pull rods will be available soon for SCC crack initiation tests. First created in 2007, the lab has grown from humble beginnings and overcome many challenges. Currently, they are working to improve the understanding of SCC mechanism and the model for crack initiation and growth.
