Technical practices Committee No. 3 was originally begun as a private undertaking on the part of representatives from five different companies who held their first meeting in Shreveport, Louisiana, on January 31, 1947. Shortly after this meeting the National Association of Corrosion Engineers was asked to take over the sponsorship of this group and set it up as one of their technical committees. The Association honored this request and since that time the committee has functioned as a part of the national organization.

The basic objective of committee TP-3 has to do with a study of materials which may be used as ground anodes in connection with cathodic protection systems where direct current from some external source is impressed on the circuit.
