The galvanic anode Committee was formed to investigate the use of aluminum, magnesium and zinc as galvanic anodes for cathodic protection of metal structures in soils or in solutions.

The effect, of such factors as anode composition and impurities, back-fill composition, installation practice, soil characteristics, weather and time on anode performance are being investigated.

“The First Interim Report on Galvanic Anode Tests” has been published and is available at a nominal charge from the NACE. A condensation of this report appeared in August, 1950, issue of Corrosion. The report covers information furnished to the committee by its members up to early 1949.

Tests have been started under the auspices of the Auminum Company of America, Colorado Interstate Gas Company, Dow Chemical Company, Ebasco Services, Houston Pipe Line Company, Humble Pipe Line Company, Montana Power Company, Public Service Company of Northern Illinois, Service Pipe Line Company, United Gas Corp., and the...
