Alloy 400 is shown to undergo intergranular corrosion when coupled to a large area of copper in dilute copper sulfate (CuSO4) solutions at 75°C. The mechanism involves dealloying of nickel from the alloy. Slow strain rate testing causes transgranular stress corrosion cracking under the same conditions.
