Stress corrosion of a type 304L stainless steel (SS [UNS S30403]) clad plate weldment was investigated prior to and after compressive stress treatment using the anti-welding-heating method (AWH). Results showed stress corrosion resistance of the weldment was improved significantly after AWH. A new method of stress corrosion testing of clad plate weldments, considering working and thermal stresses, was evaluated and proven effective.
