A paper giving a brief outline of materials used for equipment, pumps and piping in the older processing methods followed by a summary of new material applications in recent process, changes and improvements being made in the industry to raise product quality, reduce maintenance and to convert the industry from batch to continuous operations.

Plant departments such as raw grease handling and cleaning, splitting or hydrolysis, distillation and separation provide convenient divisions for discussing the application and relative merits of various corrosion resistant materials under several conditions of temperature and product purity.

Specific corrosion rates in ipy or mils are not presented, but in preference, the relative suitability of materials as indicated by the results of operating specific equipment under plant conditions, are discussed.
