In this paper a very good presentation is made of the problems facing the design and operating engineers of outside plant in public utilities ; and of the materials used and considered for use in meeting these problems economically. Replacements, especially if premature, of units of material in such extensive use can become quite costly. Mitigation of deterioration at reasonable cost is, therefore, very much worthwhile.
In their presentation on the durability of the lighter zinc-coated pole-line items shown in Figure 2 of the paper, the authors refer to “cable rings which had weathered in a relatively short time in a highly industrialized area.” Such reference is too general to convey definite information and it would...
