As one of its tasks for the year, the American Coordinating Committee on Corrosion** decided in 1947 to survey the present status of corrosion, teaching and research, in the colleges of the United States and Canada. The author was at the time secretary-treasurer of the committee and the responsibility for the survey fell to his lot. Individual letters were sent to all colleges which it was thought had offered corrosion course work in the past. The list of colleges to which the initial letter was sent was enclosed with the request for information and additions to the list, of other colleges which might be offering work in corrosion. In this way, quite a number of colleges were approached on the matter.
