Experimental evidence supported a previous theoretical analysis of the strain state in heavily deformed C-rings, which are used often for accelerated testing for stress corrosion cracking. The model accounted for large shape changes that accompany C-ring deflections. The model assumed C-rings undergo permanent plastic deformation during loading. Two independent measurements of strain state were made to verify the model. One method utilized precision, miniature strain gauges. The other method was an indirect measurement of plasticity by x-ray rocking curves. Comparisons confirmed the model proposed as accurate in describing the strain distribution in heavily deformed C-rings.
