The effect of sulfide (S2–) ions on the corrosion behavior of an austenitic steel (Uranus B6) in phosphoric acid (H3PO4) solutions was examined. The critical concentration at which the effect of S2– ions became perceptible was determined. Aggressive effects of the ions increased with increases in temperature and oxygen content. Results showed S2– ions modified the cathodic and anodic processes.
