The effects of n-hexylamine acting as an inhibitor in stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of A533B CL.1 (UNS(1) K12539) and sensitized type 304 (UNS S30400) stainless steels (SS) in pressurized high-temperature waters have been investigated. Characteristics of SCC were measured by the slow strain rate technique (SSRT) in pressurized high-temperature water in the absence and in the presence of n-hexylamine at a strain rate of 2.1 × 10−6 1/s under an applied potential of −200 mV (vs a standard hydrogen reference electrode [SHE]) for A533B CL. 1, and at a strain rate of 4.17 × 10−6 1/s under a free corrosion potential for sensitized type 304 SS. The n-hexylamine was found to be effective as the inhibitor of the initiation of the SCC of A533B CL. 1 steels and sensitized type 304 SS in pressurized high-temperature water.
