The stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behavior of AA(1) 7050-T7451 (UNS(2) A97075) aluminum alloy in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution has been studied using slow strain rate tension (SSRT) technique. The effects of strain rate, solution pH, and dissolved oxygen on the SCC behavior of the aluminum alloy has been investigated. The experimental results show that specimen with short transversal orientation is susceptible to SCC at a strain rate of 8.0 × 10−7 s−1. The results also indicate that the SCC resistance of 7050-T7451 alloy in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution decreases with the presence of dissolved oxygen or with increasing the solution acidity.
