Electrochemical and ellipsometric measurements of the effect of octylamine addition to potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP) solution on the formation of passive films on iron were made.

It was found that a smaller charge was consumed for film formation and the passive film was thicker in solution with octylamine than without it. In presence of octylamine, the optical parameters were the same as in its absence.
