The corrosion behavior of carbon steel in saturated NaCl at 150 C has been evaluated using polarization curves and the polarization resistance method. The effect of pH on the corrosion behavior evidenced the following 3 regions: (1) in acid solutions, high corrosion rates were observed and a strong dependence on pH was noted, (2) in nearly neutral solutions, moderately low corrosion rates were obtained that were independent of pH, and (3) in alkaline solutions, low corrosion rates were noted along with high susceptibility to localized corrosion.
