The corrosion resistance of sheet steel with galvanized coatings containing 0.04 wt% magnesium was compared to that of conventional galvanized sheet without magnesium additions. No significant differences in the long-term durabilities of these coatings were detected in atmospheric corrosion tests conducted in severe or moderate marine, rural, or industrial environments. It is concluded that, at the level tested, magnesium has no effect on the life of galvanized coatings.
