This review updates a review published in 1982 on the effect of nickel additions to low alloy steels on their resistance to hydrogen stress cracking (HSC). More recent research has demonstrated that nickel has no effect on sulfide stress cracking (SSC) of steels. However, the occurrence of surface trenches that may represent transition from pitting to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) may or may not be influenced by nickel.
