Long-term cathodic polarization studies performed on selected marine alloys in natural seawater indicated lower than expected limiting current densities (CDs) at large electronegative potentials. The decay in the CDs appears to be related to the growth of a calcareous film that, when taken into account in modified mass transport expressions, provides a good description for the observed phenomenon.
