The corrosion kinetics of high strength low alloy (HSLA) and mild steels in the presence of Cl ions have been investigated. The dissolution rate was expressed by a logarithmic regression of weight loss for unit surface as a function of the residence time in the aggressive solution. All of the examined steels showed similar long-term behavior in the given test conditions. The analysis of the corrosion products shows that Ni and Mn are etched preferentially during the first stages of the process.
