In the art of treating and conditioning water, and fluids containing water, there has been a very marked improvement in the use of corrosion inhibitors, but the problem never seems to end. It is the purpose of this discussion to focus attention on some of the latest methods of evaluating factors causing corrosion, and recent developments in the use of chemical inhibitors. No attempt is made in such a short discussion to comprehensively cover the entire field of corrosion.
The importance of corrosion prevention and the need for careful examination of the various manifestations of corrosion occurrence in plant operating equipment is paramount. The present loss of literally millions of dollars worth of plant equipment through avoidable corrosion attack can be prevented by careful evaluation of the corrosion factors involved and subsequent correct recommendations for protective treatment and mechanical practices.
