Although most of the waters encountered were highly corrosive, some had enough natural silica and calcium content not to require treatment. Quite a few of the small posts had very corrosive water, but the initial cost of treatment would exceed the cost of renewing hot water tanks and pipe with cement-lined replacements. Of the numerous posts where corrosion control surveys were made, only 14 were selected for treatment and study.
