The inhibition of pitting corrosion by a number of the most commonly used inhibitors in neutral solutions containing 80 ppm chloride and at two temperatures (25 and 44 C) is investigated. A scanning microprobe potentiometer is used to follow the inhibition process. The protection conferred to the surface by an inhibitor is found to be directly related to the rate of inhibition of pitting corrosion.
