The inhibitive action of oleates of different amines has been evaluated in terms of their presence in temporary protective coatings on mild steel. On the basis of electrochemical and electrical data presented, a model for this inhibition has been proposed. The model includes inhibitor adsorption at the metal coating interface and the concurrent sealing or tightening of the coating by the metallic oleate soap formed in its phase.
