In recent years, studies on the corrosion behavior of various metals and alloys exposed to water at high temperatures have been carried out in several fields. These studies may be classified into two categories: (1) to determine quantitatively corrosion products in solution,1–3 (2) to identify the change of the specimens surface after testing in the corrosive environment.4,5 However, those studies in the latter have not measured directly and simultaneously the corroding surface under such conditions. In this research, therefore, a new diffraction cell for X-ray analysis has been developed to study corrosion phenomena. The cell is designed to be mounted on the goniometer of an X-ray diffraction apparatus.
