Professor N. D. Tomashov is one of the founders of the theory on metal corrosion and protection and an outstanding specialist in this branch of science. His many scientific activities combine profound theoretical research and solution of practical problems.
Tomashov was born December 24, 1905, in Kiev. In 1932 he graduated from the Ivanovo-Voznesensk Chemical and Technological Institute. After graduation he worked at the Physics of Metals Laboratory of the All-Union Institute of Aircraft Materials in Moscow. In 1937 he presented a Master's thesis entitled "The Theory of Multielectrode Electrochemical Systems and Its Application to the Problems of Corrosion", and in 1943 he presented a Doctor's thesis entitled "The Electrochemistry of Corrosion Processes With Oxygen Depolarization”.
Since 1939 Tomashov has been working at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the USSR Academy of Sciences as head of the Metals and Alloys Corrosion Laboratory. From 1953-65 he was in charge of...
