One senses these days that a certain ineluctable and inexorable presence encroaches upon our personal freedom and that struggling against the tentacles is not only enervating but ineffective. Isolated individuals, as well as large organizations, seem somehow helpless in influencing the course of inflation, employment, and armed confrontation; acquiescence often appears to be the only sane alternative to expending the last ounce of life blood to no apparent end.
On the other hand, substantive changes in large people systems are brought about as enlightened and energetic individuals apply critical leverage on fragile institutional frameworks. These critical influences are wrought by those who speak persuasively and persistently in the public medium.
